“What happened is that […] everything that we know as normal, as laws, didn’t exist anymore […] suddenly it started like…” says a voice followed by electronic beats in ‘In Space There Is No Up Or Down’.

What would a world devoid of physical laws, such as gravity and frames of references, such as geometry and time be like? Perhaps in the future, such laws will be refuted.

Sitting outside of time would enable us to witness past, present and future simultaneously. This topic is one of many that leads the audience together through a collective discussion.

Chooc Ly Tan questions facts and propositions in an invitation to re-think the way that we experience and percieve our enivironment.  Part of this inquiry is the arguable role of physics, which Tan scrutinizes through materiality and time-based media, questioning its attributed functions.

From the Perspective of the Infinite  will question the various ways in which we perceive our physical reality. Chooc Ly Tan will respond to a new space which she has created, one that is delimited by the beam of the video projection. This new ‘space within a space’ will be treated like a canvas that one can enter into, wherein it is posible to  physically experiment with moving images, text and drawings. Live and recorded actions betray our familiarity with such frames of reference as gravity, geometry and time - questioning rationality and proposing the possibility of their subjugation.

Chooc Ly Tan has recently had solo exhibitions at Carlos/Ishikawa, London and Transmission Gallery, Glasgow. She will exhibit this year in group exhibitions at Tannery Arts/Drawing Room, London; V22, London and Cell Project Space, London.
